Manning Point Beach
Manning Point Beach starts from the entrance of the Manning River and extends south for approximately 10 kilometres. It is within a short stroll from Ocean Shores Caravan Park through the sandy paths, dunes and coastal vegetation.
The beach starts as a low, long spit then transforms into a steep, coarse and narrow beach to Farquhar Inlet, the southern mouth of the Manning River.
There is four-wheel drive access onto the beach. Permits are issued by Mid Coast Council or can be obtained from the Bohnock bait shop.
Mitchells Island is the largest of the islands on the Manning River at approximately 130 sqm. Access onto the island is via Manning Point Road which runs from the town of Bohnock directly to Ocean Shores Holiday Park. On the island, there is a general grocery store which is a newsagency, cafe and fish and chip shop, and a bait shop. There is also a bowling club walking distance from the park.
Originally comprising large dairy farms, only one farm remains and Mitchells Island now consists of dense rainforest where you may even spot koalas, echidnas and wallabies.
Across the Manning River is Harrington, a sleepy fishing village. If you’re bringing your own boat, you can launch it from the Manning Point ramp and motor across for a visit.
Taree is the business centre of the area and nestled on the banks of the Manning River. It features large shopping centres, sporting and entertainment facilities, large riverside parks and a huge range of dining options.
